The Salvation Army Thanksgiving Decorations Needed from Local Schools

The Salvation Army Hospitality House

The Salvation Army Tucson will host a warm Thanksgiving meal at its Hospitality House on Thurs., Nov. 28 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for those experiencing hardships.

Some local elementary schools have participated in making decorations for the Thanksgiving lunch meal over the past several years, and we need even more with attendance figures rising. Handmade items such as placemats, table center pieces, and wall hangings are the most popular used to turn The Salvation Army Tucson dining hall into a land of Thanksgiving.

Guests who have attended in the past enjoy looking at the room and talking about children making them just for this occasion. They’re a big hit, and it would be great to have even more schools participate in this Thanksgiving Day project. For more information and/or to sign-up your classroom to make decorations, email sandra.sallard@usw.salvationarmy.org or call 520-448-5502.

“Seeing the kids’ decorations in the room where the Thanksgiving lunch is held warms my heart,” said Major Andres Espinoza, Tucson City Coordinator.” “The guests have big smiles as they walk around the room looking at everything made by Tucson local school students, and it makes the event even more meaningful.”

The deadline to receive these decorations is Monday, Nov. 25, and The Salvation Army is happy to pick them up, if needed. They can also be delivered to The Salvation Army Tucson Hospitality House, 1002 N. Main Ave. and given to the receptionist inside the front door.
