The Cleveland Browns are reportedly hiring former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their next head coach, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday (January 28).
Monken, 59, had previously worked as the Browns' offensive coordinator before three seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs, which included two College Football Playoff National Championships, and three with the Baltimore Ravens, which included quarterback Lamar Jackson's second Associated Press NFL MVP award season in 2023.
"The #Browns are hiring former #Ravens OC Todd Monken as their new head coach, per The Insiders. After an exhaustive search, Cleveland lands on Monken, who previously worked with MVP Lamar Jackson," Rapoport wrote on his X account.
Monken was reportedly considered to follow former Ravens head coach John Harbaugh to the New York Giants, according to Rapoport.
"The #Giants now lose their top choice for OC, so this hire has a significant trickle down," Rapoport wrote on his X account.
Harbaugh's insistence on keeping Monken as his offensive coordinator was reported to be a factor in his own dismissal from the Ravens earlier this month. The Browns fired former head coach Kevin Stefanski on January 5.
Stefanski was a two-time Associated Press NFL Coach of the Year in 2020 and 2023, leading the Browns to their only two playoff appearances since 2002 and only postseason win since 1994, but finished with double-digit losses for the third time in four seasons in 2025. The 43-year-old went 45-56 during six seasons with the Browns, which makes him the winningest-coach since the franchise returned to the NFL in 1999 and tied with the late Marty Schottenheimer for fourth all-time in franchise history.
The Browns finished the 2025 season with a 5-12 record following Sunday's (January 4) win against the AFC North Division rival Cincinnati Bengals, which saw defensive end Myles Garrett break the NFL single-season sack record.
