Details are coming out about a Pima County Sheriff allegedly raping a Pima County Deputy and Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos protecting the people involved. Here are the details I was told:
-witness deputy sees rape about to happen (she's unconscious in a bedroom)
-tries to stop him and gets thrown out of the house
-he immediately calls his captain and tells him everything
-captain notifies Lt and chief (who's best friends with suspect)
-Lt responds to the scene soon after and waits outside with the witness for an hour. Does nothing but stare at his phone. Doesn't even go to the door to knock.
-witness deputy gets fed up and calls 911 for help. Patrol arrives and goes to the door, interrupting the attack and gets her out.
Aftermath:
-No internal investigation at all
-chief who was notified that night gets moved to IA
-notice of claim for lawsuit filed six months from incident
-soon after notice of claim, she makes the formal request through internal affairs
-Nanos thinks about it for a week and tells the IA Lt to relay to her that it's "on hold"
