FLASHBACK: Dems launched the investigation into FBI leaks — and then McCabe got caught

Regardless of whether you lean left or right, you might have noticed that over the past few years, your party’s political heroes have become villains, or the villains have become victims, or maybe the victims are now the heroes.

Take for example this weekend’s widely discussed firing of FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe. Following an investigation by the Department of Justice, McCabe was canned for leaking information to the press and then lying about it under oath. Like his former boss, James Comey, McCabe is now being viewed as a victim or a hero by many.

But let’s back up to 2016, when House Democrats Rep. Elijah E. Cummings and Rep. John Conyers, requested an investigation into potential FBI leaks that could benefit then-candidate Donald Trump. Cummings said that the FBI was experiencing “a crisis of legitimacy,” and together with Conyers wrote to Inspector General Michael Horowitz demanding an investigation into leaks from within the FBI which might benefit the presidential campaign of Donald Trump.

“It is absolutely unacceptable for the FBI to leak unsubstantiated—and in some cases false—information about one presidential candidate to benefit the other candidate,” wrote Cummings and Conyers. “Leaking this information to former FBI officials as a conduit to the Trump campaign is equally intolerable.”

So in 2016, the FBI was the ultimate villain to the Democrats and Hillary Clinton was seen as the victim of an FBI conspiracy to help elect Trump.

“When McCabe was fired this weekend, the media and the left went crazy: ‘McCabe is a victim! Trump is hiding something.’ Do they remember … they started the investigation?”

At the same time, Republicans viewed anyone willing to help Trump get elected as a hero, thus both Comey and McCabe would have fit the bill, especially after Comey sent the now infamous pre-election letter, which confirmed that Clinton was indeed still under investigation.

Now fast forward to last weekend’s FBI upheaval. McCabe was fired for leaking information and then lying about it under oath — but he was also fired just two days before retiring with a full government pension.

“When McCabe was fired this weekend, the media and the left went crazy: ‘McCabe’s a victim! Trump’s hiding something.’ Do they remember … they started the investigation? The investigation was started and requested by democratic leadership specifically to look into who was leaking stuff about Hillary Clinton to help Donald Trump. Strangely, that’s been forgotten now,” said Glenn on today’s show. He added, “We have heroes, villains, and victims that just keep playing musical chairs because, as the political narrative shifts, we have to shift our beliefs …. We’ve lost the ability to talk to one another. We’ve lost the ability to be objective. We’ve lost the ability to tell the truth to ourselves and then to be compassionate about the other side.”
