BORDER CHAOS: Federal Judge BLOCKS Deportations of ‘Reunited Families’
A US District Court Judge ruled Monday that recently “reunited families” along the US-Mexico border could not be “deported” to their home countries until further review; setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown with the Trump administration.
San Diego-based Judge Dana Sabraw ruled this week that attorneys and immigration officials needed to more time to decide the fate of those families separated while attempting to illegally enter the United States.
The ruling effectively halts the federal government from deporting the migrant families; raising new questions over whether they should be held in family detention centers or released temporarily into the United States.
“A one-week stay is a reasonable and appropriate remedy to ensure that the unimaginable trauma these families have suffered does not turn even worse because parents made an uninformed decision about the fate of their child,” said a lawyer with the ACLU.
